Future Currents creates spaces for movement organizations and leaders to build resilient relationships, tackle pressing challenges, prepare for possible conditions, and map our way to the future we deserve.
To Future (verb):
To assert, enact, and defend the liberty, the right, and the responsibility to imagine and drive toward a vision of the future we deserve. When we use “future” as a verb, we reject the notion that we are heading inexorably toward an inevitable future.

Our Approach
Future Currents’ mission is to prepare movement leaders, organizations, and formations for future conditions they don’t control and to realize an ecosystem in which they have the skills, power, and imagination to create a radically inclusive, reparative, just, and joyful future.
We focus on the knotty, chronic, systemic, and often scary obstacles in our daily lives, whether they are authoritarian threats to our democracy, the shifting economic paradigm, or the need within movements to retool and reshape our infrastructure to meet changing conditions.
We support leaders and organizations by normalizing the right to future; identifying possible future challenges, opportunities, and our gaps in meeting them; holding space for organizations to fill those gaps collaboratively; and helping them practice new ways of thinking and being.
We research, experiment, and incubate interventions to help fill current gaps in our collective strategy, and to build power in—and often despite—present-day conditions.
When we organize leaders and organizations to conduct clear-eyed assessments of the current conditions, define the future we are building, and prepare for multiple scenarios—in order to shape and implement interventions to create the power and conditions that get us to that future—we will be better equipped to build a pro-democracy movement and meet the future powerfully together.
